Dress codes can be a sticky topic, and are perhaps one of the biggest changes that we've seen in many workplaces over the last decade, with many companies, and employees, now adopting a much more casual approach to their office attire. And if you're confused about what to wear to work, you're not alone.
I've personally witnessed some very questionable choices in office environments, including items that would be far more suitable for a Saturday night out.
Even in casual workplaces, your clothes are always communicating something, so here are some things you should definitely steer clear of:
Leggings or anything that you would wear to a gym
Spaghetti strap/halter top/strapless tops
Low cut tops that visibly show cleavage
Anything that is even remotely see-through
Lycra or any tight-fitting fabrics
Thongs or flip flops
Bear in mind this isn't an exhaustive list, and I recommend to always err on the side of caution if you're questioning whether a garment is appropriate for your workplace or not.
These items will instantly undermine your professionalism and get you noticed for the wrong reasons.
Instead, wear clothes that make people recognise you for your intellect and your confidence.
